Fetish Scene Information

Fetish Scene
Article Image
The fetish scene is bigger than you think! Fetishism is by no means a minority activity. Quite the opposite, it’s widespread. If all the ‘closet fetishists’ around the world were to fess up to their obsessions and joined the worldwide fetish club scene , it’d soon become obvious that fetish fixation is pretty much mainstream!

So, what sorts of people get involved in fetishism? The short answer is anyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic classification, education or lifestyle; more men, however, are fetishists than women.

Fetishism: The Facts

Sexual Fetish Definition: A fetish is a sexual obsession or attraction to objects or materials that aren’t normally considered sexual. A fetish is also defined as an obsessive fixation on a body part or inanimate object which the fetishist uses to become sexually aroused and to climax during masturbation or sexual intercourse.

Typically, the fetish object will be used as a ‘prop’ to achieve sexual gratification, during masturbation. Equally, the fetishist may fantasise about their favourite fetish during foreplay or during sexual intercourse with a partner.

Types of Fetishes: Inanimate object fetishes fall into two broad categories: form fetishes and media fetishes. With a form fetish, the focus is primarily on the shape of the object, e.g. stiletto heels, seamed stockings, etc., whereas a media fetish is all about the material from which the object is made, e.g. rubber, leather, latex, etc.

Popular Fetishes: shoes (especially high-heeled stilettos), knee-high boots, lingerie (especially the blatantly impractical, e.g. lacy suspenders, stockings, basques, etc), gloves, rubber and leather garments, whips, chains, uniforms, body parts (boobs, bums, stomachs, legs, hair, hands, waists, ankles, forearms), body piercing, etc.

Paraphilia: The term paraphilia is used to describe an extreme or atypical form of fetishism where a person’s sexual arousal depends entirely on an uncommon fetish object or an extreme form of sexual stimulation. Paraphilia is far more common in men than women. Examples of paraphilia include talking dirty, making obscene phone-calls, exhibitionism, e.g. genital exposure and flashing, voyeurism, transvestism, inflicting pain, e.g. spanking, pornography, sadomasochism, masochism , klismaphilia (use of enemas), urophilia (‘golden showers’ urinating over someone), etc.

Extreme Fetishism: When does fetishism cross that grey line between harmless, controllable sexual gratification and more extreme forms of sexual activities that can affect your lifestyle? According to the experts, fetishism only becomes a problem when it starts to affect an individual’s ability to function on a daily basis and interferes with personal relationships, or the fetishist fails to become sexually aroused in non-fetish related sex.

Reassuringly, however, this is not a problem for most fetishists who merely use their fetishes to enhance their sex lives.
